Lisbon urban trains passes

CP passes are valid for an unlimited number of journeys on a given CP route during their period of validity. With the CP Lisbon Urban Train Pass, all you have to do is travel for 11 days, and you're already saving money.

CP Passes can be purchased any day of the month and are valid for 30 or 60 consecutive days from the date of sale or the date chosen for the start of validity (up to 8 days after the time of purchase).

Prices:

The Navegante Metropolitano pass is a fixed monthly pass (valid for the month in which it is purchased) and allows you to use all the public passenger transport companies in all 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

The municipalities covered by the Lisbon Urban Trains are: Alcochete, Almada, Amadora, Barreiro, Cascais, Lisboa, Loures, Mafra, Moita, Montijo, Odivelas, Oeiras, Palmela, Seixal, Sesimbra, Setúbal, Sintra and Vila Franca de Xira.

On CP, the Navegante Metropolitano can be used:

• On Lisbon urban trains: on the Sintra, Cascais and Sado lines; on the Azambuja line up to and including Carregado station.
• On InterRegional and Regional Trains: on the Oeste Line between Lisbon and Jerumelo (inclusive), and on the North Line between Lisbon and Carregado. 

If you want to travel beyond the validity of the Navegante Metropolitano pass on the Azambuja Line, you can buy the CP Azambuja-Carregado Complement. 

Navegante passes are not valid on Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains, services which require advance seat reservations.

The pass is composed up of an electronic top-up on the Navegante Card and are sold from 4 a.m. on the 26th of each month until 3.59.a.m. on the 26th of the following month at ticket offices, vending machines and ATMs. On the Navegante Portal, tickets are sold from 4 a.m. on the 21st of each month until 3.59.a.m. on the 21st of the following month.

The Navegante Municipal is a monthly pass (valid for the chosen month), which allows you to use all public passenger transport companies within the geographical limits of 1 municipality.

On CP, the Navegante Municipal can be used between stations in the chosen municipality in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area: 

There are 3 CP stations that are covered by 2 municipalities, so the customer can choose to buy the Municipal Navegante that is most advantageous:

• Algés - station valid for Navegante Oeiras or Navegante Lisboa
• Moscavide and Sacavém - stations valid for Navegante Loures or Navegante Lisboa

Municipal Navegante tickets for Alcochete, Almada, Montijo, Odivelas, Seixal and Sesimbra are sold at CP ticket offices but are not valid for use on CP routes.

The tickets are composed of an electronic top-up on the Navegante Card and are sold from 4 a.m. on the 26th of each month until 3.59 a.m. on the 26th of the following month at ticket offices, vending machines and ATMs. On the Navegante Portal, tickets are sold from 4 a.m. on the 21st of each month until 3.59 a.m. on the 21st of the following month.

* Since 1 January 2023, the Municipality of Setúbal has granted a bonus of €10 on the current retail price when purchasing any type of Navegante Municipal Setúbal pass.

The Navegante Família has the same characteristics as the Navegante Metropolitano or Municipal and allows each family to pay a maximum of 2 passes. It is valid monthly, i.e. from the first to the last day of the month for which it was purchased.

Beneficiaries of Navegante Família are households with a minimum of 3 members and the same tax residence, which is located in one of the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

Modalities

There are two types of Navegante Família: Navegante Metropolitano or Navegante Municipal.

The Navegante Metropolitano Família pass allows all members of the household to use all regular public passenger transport services in the 18 municipalities of the Lisbon metropolitan area, paying a maximum of 2 Navegante Metropolitano passes - €80.

The Navegante Municipal Família* pass allows all members of the household to use all regular public passenger transport services within the geographical limits of the municipality selected by the household, 1 of the 18 municipalities it chooses in the Lisbon metropolitan area, paying a maximum of 2 Navegante Municipal passes - €60.

* Since 1 January 2023, the Municipality of Setúbal has granted a bonus of €10 on the current retail price when purchasing any type of Navegante Municipal Setúbal pass. This bonus does not require any prior membership or access conditions. In the Navegante Municipal Família de Setúbal mode, the current maximum amount payable for all household members will be €50.

For the purposes of access to the Navegante Family Pass, the applicant responsible for the household and the following people are considered to be part of the same household:

a) Spouse or unmarried partner, in the latter case for more than two years;

b) Relatives in a straight line (grandfather, grandmother, father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, children, grandchildren) of the applicant or the person who has been living with them for more than 2 years;

c) Adopted children and children under the guardianship of the applicant or unmarried partner, as well as minors entrusted to them by a judicial or administrative decision of organisations or services legally competent to do so.

In order to apply for the Navegante Família, all members of the household (the Responsible Applicant and the other beneficiaries) must have a Navegante card (a hard, personalised card with a photo).

Requisition / Annual Renewal

The Navegante Família can be requested or renewed at the service points of the public service operators of regular passenger transport. At CP it can be requested at the Customer Assistance Offices in Rossio and Cais do Sodré.

In order to apply for or renew the Navegante Família, the Responsible Applicant must fill in the Access Application Form (save, fill in and print), which is also available at ticket offices in the Lisbon urban train catchment area and at the transport operators' points of sale, and submit the necessary documents relating to themselves and the members of their household. If there are beneficiaries over the age of 18, a Declaration of Representation (to be saved, filled in and printed) must be submitted for each member of the household.

Submission of the Application for Access to Navegante Família and other documents does not guarantee acceptance of the application. Navegante Família will be activated once the access conditions have been met.

Confirmation of membership of Navegante Família is sent to the email address indicated on the application, so it is compulsory to provide this information when applying for access. It can take up to 10 days to activate Navegante Familia.

Only after the membership has been connected can the Navegante Família be purchased and topped up.

Access to Navegante Família is granted for a period of one year, as long as the conditions are maintained. A renewal request must be made before the end of this period.

AML may at any time check and validate the conditions of access. Failure to comply with these conditions will result in the cancellation of access to the Navegante Família pass and the application of criminal and legal sanctions.

On sale from

After activation, you will need to make the Navegante Família Payment/Purchase, with any of the Navegante cards associated with the household, at the locations indicated, at www.aml.pt or at www.portalviva.pt, between the 26th of the previous month and the 25th of the month of use. At CP, the Navegante Família can be bought and topped up at Ticket Offices.

Only after payment has been made will the remaining associated Navegante Cards be loaded (all at the same time or at different times and places). All household cards that are to be used in the month for which payment has been made must be topped up.

The Navegante Família pass must be paid for and topped up monthly.

Since 1 January 2024, the Navegante Metropolitano pass has been free for students between the ages of 4 and 23 (profiles Sub 18+TP and Estudante Sub 23+TP), allowing the use of public transport included in this pass in all 18 municipalities in the Lisbon metropolitan area, under the same conditions indicated in the Navegante Metropolitano tab.

These free tickets can be topped up at the ticket offices, as long as the holder has the Sub 18+TP and Student Sub 23+TP (formerly 4_18 or sub23) profile updated on their navegante card.

If you don't have a navegante card, you must apply for one by presenting the following documentation:

• From the age of 4 to 18, all you need to show is an ID card proving that you are under 19.
• From 19 to 23 (inclusive), in addition to presenting your ID document, you will have to prove your school attendance by means of a declaration of enrolment at a national educational establishment. This condition must be renewed annually.

Who can benefit?

All students aged 4 to 23 inclusive:

- For young people aged 4 to 18, there is no need to provide proof of enrolment in an educational unit (as they attend compulsory education);

- For young people between the ages of 19 and 23, annual proof that they are students is required by presenting a Declaration of Enrolment in a national educational establishment, and now covers students enrolled in secondary or vocational courses;

- Access to the free Navegante Metropolitano is extended to young people up to the age of 24 who attend courses with an integrated study cycle, namely Architecture and Urbanism, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine.

This pass allows full mobility throughout the city of Lisbon for 30 consecutive days, integrating Carris, Metro and CP into Lisbon's urban circuits.

Urban Navegante senior:

In addition to being tax resident in the municipality of Lisbon, you must also have a Navegante card with the +65 profile or apply for one at the ticket office by presenting the following documents:

• Submission of the application for access to the nevegnte pass and corresponding documentation
• ID and proof of age
• Tax residence certificate

If you have a normal Navegante card without a valid senior urban profile:

• Identification document and proof of age
• Tax residence certificate

The Navegante pass lets you activate a special Bolt pass for only €15 more per month, which allows you to travel daily, for 20 minutes, with Bolt's electric scooters and bikes.
